Pat Konkle, a retired machinist from Colorado, created a set of mechanical displays that demonstrate a variety of working gears. It’s an amazing piece of work. Mike Neden of Pittsburg State’s Kansas Technology Center came upon these displays on a trip and with help from Pitsco Education turned them into freestanding exhibits. Mike said that Konkle created these displays in his machine shop as his wife’s health was failing. He brought a comfortable chair into the machine shop for her and she sat there while he worked away on creating these marvels of mechanical motion.
The video above shows four different displays, and ends with my favorite which has a wonderful sound. Mike Neden describes some of the action.
I’d love to have these displays at a Maker Faire someday.
