The first time I saw this video from Daniel Larsson and Tomas Redigh I was skeptical that they had really animated it by hand, just by moving a bunch of coins around on the floor. Then I saw the clever trick they were using to lay out the individual frames. Still a tedious task, requiring serious commitment.
Built mostly from Lego Technic elements by Brickshelf user barman, who credits the idea to a model displayed at Brickfest 2006 by one Jason Allermann. Looks like it can’t really expand that far. Still cool, though.

If you’ve got an old camera laying around and are looking for some fun, try taking off the lens and snap a few pictures through it with your smartphone.
