Whip Up – New Craft Portal
Whip Up is a newly launched craft portal that brings in 16 contributors, the who’s who of the crafting world. Highlights of today’s round of posts include a UK knit art exhibit (yes, there’s a knit TV!), finding inspiration, and the humor and fear in the idea of making your own lava lamp. From the site, “Whip up is a multi author site with contributors from around the world united by a passion for making things, for beautiful design and for a desire to share ideas with others. ” Thanks Kath! It’s LED day today it seems – “Want to make a neat courier bag light? This light goes through the straps on a timbuk 2 bag and blinks in really cool patterns using a BS2. You’ll need: 16 x 470 ohm Resistors, 16 x LEDs 24 Pin IC Socket on/off switch, 9v Battery 9v Battery connector, 9 x Molex KK Connectors, 18″ 3/4″ Flat webbing, Breadboard, Wire… oh you’ll need some wire.”

Make your own LED tank top “84 LEDs, a microcontroller and battery were sewn onto a tank top with conductive thread to create a wearable LED matrix display…the shirt is initialized with a glider on the back of the shirt and a blinker on the front. Periodically, a new glider is added to the back of the shirt. The tank top “board” for the Game of Life is a torus; the cells on the top row of the tank top are neighbors to the cells on the bottom row and vice versa.”
Eltoozero of www.destruc.tv writes “I built this case mod to be a nearly completely authentic looking Mac Classic, but with a Mac Mini inside, playing DVD’s through the floppy and running OSX, except it’s black.” Eltoozero said he’d write up more about his project if there is interest, so post up in the comments!
A Flickr photo of a crazy tasy roll-film pinhole camera made from a SPAM tin. The Maker writes “This is my newest camera in my collection. It takes 120 roll film and yields 8-12 exposures.” The film is advanced using a wingnut, the pinhole is covered with tape when not in use, best of all
