Logan Austeja Daniel, Martin Azevedo, and biochemist/jeweler/entrepreneur Raven Hanna of Made With Molecules are the brains behind this beautiful deck of Tarot cards with scientific themes. Suits were commissioned from five different artists: Janelle Schneider (Wands), Kristy Whitehouse (Pentacles), Shari Arai DeBoer (Swords), Tammy Stellanova (Cups), and Kris Johnson Michiels (Major Arcana). One of the highlights of our tour of the Maker Faire grounds last Thursday was this “Wayward Calliope” by artist Ben Cowden of Applied Kinetic Arts. Turn the crank, and a combined mechanical and pneumatic power transfer system activates a choir of slide whistles to produce a sound that is simultaneously beautiful, creepy, and hilarious. Somehow. It’s rather harder to appreciate in a noisy exhibit hall, so if you were at the Faire and saw, but couldn’t hear, be double-dog-sure to check the vid.

German artist Evol decorates electrical boxes and planters with adhesive paper that he’s stenciled to look like miniature concrete tenements. When there are a whole bunch of these in one area it looks like a mini city! The project is called Plattenbauten, which means “prefab” in German. [via doorknob]
