San Francisco, Sept. 24-25 at the Webzine 2005 Independent Online Publishing Conference MAKE’s Phil Torrone will have a session about hacking many popular consumer electronic devices : High quality audio recording on old iPods, run new games, mod firmware, fun stuff. Digital camera hacks, from the reuse of the “disposable” cameras to modding digital cameras for projects. We’re working with a partner to put together a focus group session about technology-related projects and the projects you Make on your time. In this session, we will be brainstorming new ideas and getting your feedback on possible future concepts. This session is hosted by MAKE magazine but conducted by an outside focus group facilitator and is designed to get creative ideas about how the marketplace can better serve your needs. The focus group will be held in San Francisco this Saturday, Sept 17 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. All qualified participants will be compensated for their time. Link.

A few weeks ago I was at O’Reilly’s Foo camp and while I thought I saw a lot of interesting things, took photos and met a lot of people- this write up from the son of one of the folks there is perhaps the best one I’ve read. Note to self, try to look at the world through eyes like these all the time. Link.

Clint invited me out to the Seattle Vlogger class at the Apple store and did some filming about MAKE. They had HOW TOs as well as an overview of all the interesting things going on with video blogs. Someone made an amazing video of Google Earth with all the vloggers geocoded, as it zipped around, it would play video from the vlogger. I’ll try and get a copy and post it. Link. Flickr photos here.
