Craig guide on PC keyboard interfacing… “Why would you want to interface the Keyboard? The IBM keyboard can be a cheap alternative to a keyboard on a Microprocessor development system. Or maybe you want a remote terminal, just couple it with a LCD Module. Maybe you have a RS-232 Barcode Scanner or other input devices, which you want to use with existing software which only allows you to key in numbers or letters. You could design yourself a little box to convert RS-232 into a Keyboard Transmission, making it transparent to the software.”Link.
This is on the top of my take apart & tinker list! “When Caleb Chung has a big idea, the toy world pays attention. The co-inventor of the Furby doll created a sensation in 1998 that sold 40 million of the talking furry creatures. Now at a Bay Area start-up, he is launching a new dinosaur robot for kids that he hopes will build upon his dream of creating lifelike, emotionally responsive mechanical animals. Chung’s new brainstorm is called Pleo and it will debut this fall. He is unveiling it today at the Demo conference in Scottsdale, Ariz., and has also taken the wraps off his Emeryville-based company, Ugobe, which is making Pleo.” [via] Link.
Eltoozero of www.destruc.tv writes “I built this case mod to be a nearly completely authentic looking Mac Classic, but with a Mac Mini inside, playing DVD’s through the floppy and running OSX, except it’s black.” Eltoozero said he’d write up more about his project if there is interest, so post up in the comments! Japala writes “This is the project that I started to do something about these old and outdated mouse pads, maybe to add some more “glow” to them. I bought the plexi from a firm specialiced in plastics. They sell these surplus peaces priced by weight. I found this clear 500x500x5mm piece and payed 45 FIM for it (~$6).” [via] Link.
A Flickr photo of a crazy tasy roll-film pinhole camera made from a SPAM tin. The Maker writes “This is my newest camera in my collection. It takes 120 roll film and yields 8-12 exposures.” The film is advanced using a wingnut, the pinhole is covered with tape when not in use, best of all the photos are really great! [via] Link.
MAKE Flickr photo pool member Jay Dugger has a photo of “TiVO” for you car, it looks like he turned a personal recorder – “The DejaView Camwear (a device that records constantly) into a BlackBox for cars. At the press of a button it writes the previous thirty seconds to disk. Just the thing in case of an accident.” Link.
Seth’s Atari meets Xbox 360 mod on Informit.com “The Xbox 360 represents a significant step forward in gaming and home media integration. The Atari 2600 was major step in gaming and home entertainment, so it seems appropriate that Seth Fogie modded his Xbox 360 to fit inside a 2600 case to create the Atari-Xbox 3600. This article shows you how he did it.” [via] Link.
