In this project, we’ll make battery packs essentially for free. If you need a lot, make a lot. If you need more voltage, add on more cells with couplers. If participants and students in your workshop or class all make their own, they can do it together, maybe even doing a manufacturing project to create many for future use.

Has anyone else noticed a lot of movies with trebuchets and other catapults in them? I sure have. For instance, they were the special-effects stars in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, particularly, the Return of the King. They’ve been on TV as well: Fox Sports, the Simpsons, Northern Exposure, PBS Nova, Warner Brother’s cartoons and probably many others.

This is an interesting project for gathering pollen samples for analysis. It’s basically a fan controlled by a PIC16F690.
