Really cool low-cost trick from our very own Andrew Lewis over on CRAFT. Cut the adapter from silver card stock and position it over the slide or negative to be scanned on the bed of a regular flat-bed scanner. The scan is taken with the lid open (obviously), and negatives can then be inverted and touched-up at the software level.
Wonderfully ambitious, creative project from Ben Heck. Basically, he’s hacked the electronics of an Xbox 360 DVD drive together with the mechanics from an old stereo component CD carousel, and then patched together an interface between the two using an Arduino Uno.
I attended the NYC Hack and Tell Meetup last night and saw Lee Felarca give demonstrations of his “work in progress” Kinect hacks. Using openFrameworks, and written in C++, Lee said he was mostly just interested in learning C++ – some filters he wrote include explosions (above), alpha trails, particle emitter, and strobe.

Developed by programmer Ryan Challinor, he has videos of other Kinect hacks on his YouTube channel, as well as a detailed 12-minute walkthrough on how to get the Synapse-Kinect-Ableton patch up and running.
Clever food-safe trick to make glow-in-the-blacklight Jell-O that is, nonetheless, edible. At least in theory. I have seen this trick in a couple places, but Instructables user cluracon has the best instructions and photography of the bunch.
