Jimmy Kimmel’s resident maker Science Bob conducted some live experiments on television recently and it reminded some of us around the MAKE water cooler of his stage presentations at New York’s World Maker Faire back in September.
What are Robot Hacks? We’re creating live online participatory events for the MAKE community, and re-making what it means for you to take part. Our new Maker Session concept includes video presentations by Master Makers with opportunities for you to be creative and hack in your own locations. We are thrilled that you will be able to brainstorm, build your projects, and be inspired by what you are learning, wherever you are. The early results are promising: Last month’s Urban Sensor Hack, our first Maker Session, included energetic teams and fascinating projects from across the U.S. and Europe.
The third annual Atlanta Mini Maker Faire was this past Saturday on Georgia Tech’s campus. The weather was nice, the football team had an away game (therefore leaving the campus devoid of rowdy fans), and the Makers were out in full swing. Here are a few highlights, in photo form.
The Atlanta Mini Maker Faire surrounded the Tech Green at Georgia Tech on Saturday, attracting an estimated 10,000 attendees to see rockets, robots, steampunk, 3D printers, woodworking, kinetic sculptures, art bikes, lawnbots, a mobile makerspace and much more.

Makers are taking over the historic Mint in downtown San Francisco on November 23-24. Coming right before Thanksgiving and the holiday season, Makers@theMint is a pop-up retail event featuring unique handcrafted goods and other maker merchandise. Makers will turn the old Mint into a giant maker department store. There will be a technology pavilion showcasing the latest technologies in and other pre-production prototypes.
As the Atlanta Mini Maker Faire grows to become one of the largest in the Southeast, its impact on the continued growth of the community has become clear — there’s a lot going on here, and I’d like to highlight a few things that are happening within the next two days.
