Last Sunday marked Tennessee’s second annual Kingsport Mini Maker Faire. The event included hovercraft, wood carving, belly dancing, and even hand-carved wooden carousel animals! Check out some snaps from the day.
Diving deeper into this week’s “Make the Future” theme, today on Maker Camp we’ll explore circuitry and wearable technology with electrical engineer, Matthew Schmidtbauer who will tell us all about squishy cirucuits. We’ll also be joined by wearable technology designer Grace Kim and experience designer Fashioning Technology author Syuzi Pakhchyan.
This week’s theme on Maker Camp is “Create the Future” and we’ll explore that notion today as we talk LED and DIY holograms. Joining us today we’ll be very special guest Mary Lou Jepsen, head of the Display Division at Google X Lab and founder of Pixel Qi. Mary Lou will talk about holograms and light and some the projects she’s leading.
At the beginning of July we spent a couple of days going through all the submissions received to participate in Maker Faire Rome — the European Edition, taking place Oct. 3-6 in Italy. It was a great experience for us to discover makers’ projects from all around Europe, and the MakerTour gave us the chance to meet some of them and to produce 69 video clips to share this experience with all of you.
Hackaday, the DIY/hacker site which has been publishing since 2004, is up for sale, according to owner Jason Calacanis, who said he would rather focus on rebranding his struggling Mahalo site. Calacanis is hoping to sell the site for around $500,000.
Today’s Maker Camp is all about robots! One of last year’s most popular Maker Camp guests was RobotGrrl so we’ve brought her back to talk bots along and Super Awesome Sylvia, who just got back from demonstrating her WaterColorBot at the White House Science Fair. They’ll be showing off their latest robot projects. We’ll also show you how to build a robot of your own—a vibrobot.
