S.W.A.R.M. sculpture
Here’s an interesting acoustic sculpture by Jim Lee – he says it produces a “kind of choral moan reminiscent of a beehive”. Make sure you listen to the audio (links on his site), it’s a really cool sound.

A few weeks ago, I checked out a Noise Night at Willoughby and Baltic. Scheduled for the second and fourth Thursday of the month, it’s a really fun time. I read an article in MAKE, Volume 04 on circuit bending, but I’d never gotten around to trying it. Back in college, I took a few […]
Kyle points out this one that’s been making the rounds – prolific videoblogger jetdaisuke demonstrates what happens when mobile music devices join forces. In attendance at this event, we find the following devices(and their relevant applications) – Nintendo DS Lite(Electroplankton), Nintendo DSi(KORG DS-10), iPod touch(Mokugyo 木éš), iPhone(Bloom) and a Korg Kaossilator.
David points out the 4bitsynth – a MIDI controllable digital synthesizer using the ATMega48 chip and a resistor ladder digital to analog converter. This simple project produces some nice NES-esque square, triangle, and noise waveforms – code is available here – 4bitsynth
From the MAKE: Flickr pool Tremble at the feet of Rusty Sheriff’s mighty “555 astable tone generator with tuned keys” – sporting a big ol’ 8″ woofer and a laser-cut case. No performance samples to be found but the name/design alone is satisfying enough – Rusty Growler Please, share pics of your awesome works in […]
The Plasticfanpiper lives up to his name demonstrating a homemade ‘membrane pipe’ apparently built from straws balloons, and plastic valves – must be a pretty sturdy build to stand up to the air pressure. [Thanks, Stephen!] A quick search for “membrane bagpipe” turned up this interesting how to – The results produce a tone somewhat […]
From the MAKE: Flickr pool Greg’s using Arduino to create an auto-drummer – Yesterday, I got my drum playing robot working with chop sticks screwed into rotary solenoids. It’s powered by two 9v batteries wired in series and controlled by the arduino through transistors. I showed this off at the UrHo Talks 2 event last […]
