Ayah Bdeir is the co-chair with Alicia Gibb of the Open Hardware Summit. Held in advance of World Maker Faire, the summit is a one-day event at the New York Hall of Science on Thursday, September 15th. The conference will be live-streamed here, and you can join the twitter conversation at #openhardware throughout the summit.
EAGLE updated their upcoming features page for v6, October of last year they promised a XML format was coming, they’re still on track. For open-source hardware, having an open export format for all the CAD tools has been something we’ve wanted, needed and will celebrate!
he Open Hardware Summit is this Thursday, Sept 15th, before World Maker Faire. And it’s also being held at the New York Hall of Science. Makers and businesses pushing for open source hardware, open BOM costs, and even open supply chain information for consumer devices, are convening for a day of lectures and learning, friend-making, and business card trading.
Addie and Stefan demonstrate Lasersaur at Maker Faire Bay Area 2011. Lasersaur is an open source laser cutter the team made after learning a laser cutter would be cost prohibitive for them personally. Using easily reproducible parts, the Lasersaur is intended to be built by other users and subsequently improved upon.
As the Open Hardware summit approaches I’ll be posting some topics from the Open Hardware list. One of the recent discussions was about the need for more open tools (and helping folks use them)
And just when I was getting over my yen for the normal-sized (“chicken?”) eggbot. Like the original, the new Ostrich Eggbot is a spherical-surface plotter, but its capacity has been increased from the original’s 1.25-4.25″ diameter range to 2.25-6.25″. The kits are on-sale now for $250. The original eggbot is still available at $200.
