See our HOW TO…At $30 each these video cameras could be really useful for indymedia in latin america. The problem with expensive equiptment is that it centralized the means of production, you only have one camera, and when it’s lost it’s gone. But with $30 devices which record audio for interviews, video, and you can grab still’s from you can do some amazing work. It’s not so expensive that it’ll get stollen quickly. We could get one of these in to the hands of many media activists instead of the one digital camera per imc which is not the standard in most imc’s in countries with ‘under developed’ economies. Home made, open source mp3 Player. The main goal of this project is to create an open design for a portable MP3 player, in both hardware and software. With the application of a knife along the seam on the side and top of the device, the use of tweezers to hold the newly-formed gap open, the use of another pair of tweezers to reach in and grab the antenna, and the replacing of the rubber insulating plug on the side of the iTrip to seal the casing back up, I was able to fully extend the antenna out the side of the iTrip at a healthy 90º angle with almost no scarring of the case. If you really need to take your music player underwater there are some expensive solutions or you could consider going a bit more low cost like MAKE Flickr pool member EverythingDigital- iPod + iTrip ($22.99) + Waterproof Radio ($12.97) which is less than an iPod Waterproof Case ($149.95). I guess you really can’t go too far from the broadcasting iPod though. Link.
